Rainmaker Holland joins Vietnam-Netherlands Innovation Mission

Salty Soils, Shared Solutions 

At the heart of this was the event ‘Salty Soils, Shared Solutions: Vietnam and the Netherlands Dialogue on Salinity for Horticulture Development in the Mekong Delta’ in Can Tho City, co-organized by the Dutch Embassy and Can Tho University. The event brought together industry experts to discuss innovations and partnerships that can strengthen water resilience and sustainable agriculture in this vital, but vulnerable, delta region. 

Why the Mekong Delta Matters 

The Mekong Delta is a crucial agricultural region for Vietnam, supporting millions of livelihoods and producing a large share of the country’s rice, fruit, and aquaculture. At the same time, it is increasingly vulnerable to salinity intrusion, which threatens freshwater availability and agricultural productivity.  

Preserving the delta is therefore essential not only for food security, but also for the long-term resilience of local communities facing climate change and water stress. 

From Collaboration to Impact 

Because of the growing urgency, it also led to necessary concrete next steps. During the event, we had the honour of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Rainmaker Holland, our future Vietnamese partners, and the Water Innovation Center (WIC). This MoU formalizes our collaborative commitment to co-develop water solutions that address saline soil impacts and water scarcity in ways that are both climate-resilient and locally relevant. 

Our shared approach integrates Rainmaker Holland’s expertise in decentralised, sustainable water generation and water reuse, local and regional knowledge of water and agricultural systems in the Mekong Delta, and WIC’s innovation capacities in rainwater systems and adaptive technologies. 

By combining these strengths, we seek to contribute to a more sustainable and resilient water future for communities and food systems in the Mekong Delta, turning collective innovation into meaningful action. 

We look forward to the next steps in turning this MoU into real-world impact! It is always a pleasure to take part in Dutch Government and RVO initiatives, which consistently bring together innovation, expertise, and impact.
