The Global Water Crisis — and Why It Matters WIC, Rainmaker Holland BV, and Floating Farm BV join forces for circular solutions
Rotterdam, October 14, 2025
The Water Innovation Center (WIC), Rainmaker Holland BV, and Floating Farm BV proudly announce their collaboration, which focuses on sustainable water and food production. The three parties are combining their knowledge and technology to develop an integrated system that combines locally produced food and circular water use.
The collaboration builds on the shared vision that urban areas need to manage natural resources more intelligently and resiliently. By combining Rainmaker’s unique water purification technology with Floating Farm’s circular agricultural principles and the knowledge and experience of the Water Innovation Center, a powerful ecosystem for innovation is created.

A Vision for Water Independence
“This collaboration demonstrates what is possible when technology, entrepreneurship, and sustainability reinforce each other,” says Albert Jansen of WIC. “Together, we create solutions that are applicable globally, but start locally.”

Why this partnership is important
“This collaboration demonstrates what is possible when technology, entrepreneurship, and sustainability reinforce each other,” says Albert Jansen of WIC. “Together, we create solutions that are applicable globally, but start locally.”
The collaboration focuses on creating an integrated water cycle for (urban) food production, in which rainwater, surface water, airborne water, and wastewater are utilized and purified into usable process water. This aligns with the three organizations’ mission to minimize water consumption and make food production more sustainable.
“Joost Oosterling, CEO of Rainmaker Holland BV: “Our technology converts humidity and unusable water, such as wastewater, brackish water, or seawater, into safe, clean water. By collaborating with Floating Farm and WIC, we can further optimize our systems to achieve a fully circular system.”
“Peter van Wingerden, founder of Floating Farm BV: “Our goal is to bring food production closer to the city. By building on the water, we are an international example of climate-adaptive agriculture: not affected by droughts, floods, or rising sea levels. With this collaboration, we can demonstrate that we are sustainable, self-sufficient, and scalable when it comes to food”.
