Rainmaker and Bredenoord provide mission-critical water supply technology for Dutch military bases
SOESTERBERG, The Netherlands, 12 June 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Rainmaker Worldwide, in collaboration with its partner, has supplied its innovative MD Water Power unit to Fieldlab Smartbase 1.0 for the Dutch Ministry of Defense.
The smart base was officially opened by his Majesty King Willem-Alexander, the King of the Netherlands.
The Dutch army takes part in several UN missions and has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is currently active in a UN peacekeeping mission in Mali to combat local insurgents. In these missions, it is essential to minimize supply lines and reduce local dependencies to increase troop security and maximize operational efficiency.
The MD Water Power Unit - a specially developed solution for military specifications
The most important Water-to-Water technology from Rainmaker has been successfully combined with the advanced military generators from Bredenoord in a plug-and-play solution in container that supplies both clean drinking water and reliable electricity.
The unit lowers the cost of fresh drinking water, is highly efficient, mobile and ideally suited for areas with little or no infrastructure.
Replacement of current reverse osmosis systems
The ultimate goal is to replace the current reverse osmosis systems with Rainmaker-Bredenoord units. Each unit can supply up to 25,000 liters of pure drinking water and 35 kW of electricity without a power connection under all circumstances.
This independent, low-maintenance solution is designed to be suitable for global military deployment, NGOs and emergency aid situations.
"A military context places high demands on product functionality," says Joost Oosterling, Managing Director, Europe for Rainmaker. “Your innovation must work in the desert at more than 40 degrees, or in the freezing cold at minus ten.
Army Commander Lieutenant Colonel Erwin Leidelmeijer said: “We offer a robust experimental environment: the innovations must be soldier-resistant, so we practice and test them in a static environment in the barracks in Soesterberg. At Smart Base, civilian products are tested for military applications, while the military specifications are maintained. "
Michiel Pols of Innovation Quarter Netherlands: “The Dutch armed forces have a good reputation abroad. You can count on NATO to see what happens here. When the Dutch armed forces purchase the innovations, the gate opens for the rest of the world. "
Michael O’Connor, President and CEO of Rainmaker Worldwide: “We are delighted to have delivered this innovative application of Rainmaker's Water-to-Water technology to the Smartbase project in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. We look forward to working closely with the teams in Bredenoord and the Dutch army during the extensive test period.
We are very encouraged by the early results and are confident that there will be new opportunities in the short term to cooperate with both military and aid organizations where rapid deployment is needed to deal with the consequences of disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters. Air-to-Water units are available in three standard sizes and produce 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 liters of drinking water per day. Water-to-water units are also available in three standard sizes that produce 37,500, 75,000 or 150,000 liters per day. This makes our units suitable for communities of 200 to 30,000 people, depending on the number of units deployed.
